Translation as a discipline has many theories, standards, strategies, varieties, methods, and other aspects in its specific manner. Someone who tries to translate, especially of books, texts and or part of them, it is better, at least understand those basic theories of translation. It is necessary also however, to translate them as often as possible. The more he or she practices it, his or her translation will be better. By doing so, it is hoped that his or her translation will be more acceptable, accurate and appropriate.
This book describes both theory and practice aspects of translation especially for those who will translate at the first time, wether they are students, teachers, lecturer, and someone else who interested in translation. On the theories aspects, it analyses many basic ones, i.e. the importance, definition, process, principles, and types of translation; concepts of meaning and equivalence that usually used in it. And on the practice aspects it displays about English noun phrase, verb prase, verbal constructions, modality and the way to translate each of them into Indonesian easily both in textual, grammatical, and contextual point of view. It also gives the guidance of how to use a dictionary in translation appropriately and correctly. Finally, this book discusses how to translate Indonesian text into English as well.
To make this book is more complete and as a materials for translation studies, it completed by summary and exercise in the last part of each section. There are many appendixs in it, consists of 4 appendixs as exercise material in translating from English into Indonesian and an appendix as exercise material in translating from Indonesian into English. These appendixs are aimed to motivate the readers in doing translation based on the materials and exercises given.
